DIY HONEY SHEA FOAMING BATH BUTTER

I really had fun creating this recipe, and am in love with it.

I wanted something that would lather really nice, cleanse my skin, but also provide the added moisture my dry skin needs.

With ingredients like Honey and Shea Butter, I knew it would make my skin feel soft and supple, and not dry like with ordinary foaming cleansers.

It truly gives the best of both worlds, a nice foaming lather along with tons of moisture.

This formula can be used in a bubble bath or in the shower and is great for nights you want to sit in the tub.  It’s also an excellent shower cream.

  • Honey contains proteins, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes that have therapeutic benefits for your skin.  It’s a humectant, which helps your skin to retain its moisture levels. And, is used medically as a dressing to heal cuts and burns. But, for this recipe, you can enjoy it as a moisturizer.
  • Shea butter, a fat extracted from the African Shea tree, is packed with vitamin A and has been shown to boost collagen. And, provides immediate moisture, and skin softness.

Because of the mixture of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and citric acid, the two combined create a chemical reaction that when they come in contact with water, it foams and bubbles. This is where the foaming action comes into play.

I also the added soap bases like the Stephensons Crystal Soap Base and Organic Unscented Liquid Castile Soap to help with the lather.

I think you’re going to love this recipe too!

If you prefer a vegan recipe, just omit the honey.

Here’s my recipe:

3.5 oz melt and pour soap base
1 Tbsp. Shea Butter
1 Tbsp. Organic Honey
1 Tbsp. Organic Unscented Liquid Castile Soap
1 tsp. Citric Acid
2 tsp. Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda)
  1. Melt the soap base and shea butter in the microwave at 30-second bursts, until liquid.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients in this order- Honey, Rice Bran Oil, Citric Acid, and Sodium Bicarbonate.
  3. Mix until foams to the top of your container.
  4. Place in refrigerator for 20-30 minutes until cool.
  5. Blend and whip until mixture has doubled in size and become frothy looking.
  6. Optional, you can add essential oil of your choice.
